Help needed: erudite synopsis of the causes of the economic meltdown
I've read lots of good stuff this week on DU and in other places. Obviously, this is a very complicated issue.

QUESTION: can someone out there provide a "2008 US Financial Meltdown for Dummies" synopsis of what happened, how it happened, what happens if we do nothing, and what the best alternatives are for the way forward?

Someone may already have done this, and I perhaps missed it. If so, I'll be grateful for a link to a good synopsis.

4. "This American Life" did a radio special about it back in May.
It obviously doesn't cover the latest events, but I thought it was really informative and entertaining. It's a nice background on the whole sub-prime crisis.
