3. All my debt drops off in another year or so ;)
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 03:31 PM by soulcore
Screw the CC companies, they raped me as a teenager and once I got behind they raised my rates, charged me late fees, etc, etc.

I stopped paying or communicating, and the 7 year rule has been slowly taking effect the past year, dropping off old debts one by one.

None of it is owned by the original company anyway, most have been sold so much they don't even have the proper paperwork anymore to prove they really own it.

No mortgage, I'm "fortunate" enough to be a part of America's great renter class!

6. Thank GOD I am debt free, and house is paid off too!
I'm 65, and it took us a lot of those years of paying to finally get here, but we've managed to become and stay debt free about 10 years ago!

39. Good for you...
We are down to our last 2 debts-student loan and IRS. We own our place, it is a travel trailer and we rent a lot, but we are now at the point where we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Took us 6 years to get to this point, we had a big hole and a teaspoon to shovel the dirt in. We worked OT, scrimped, and did without. We have been credit card free for 5 years. We want to get a house and once we pay for that we will look forward to retirement.

Hang in there. I wish we could sprint-but I am happy just to cross the finish line. I will not go into debt again-ever.

I could pay that off but I'm afraid I'd forget to pay property taxes and homeowners insurance. We are just irresponsible evil liberals.

bills the month they came. Never had a balance because I didn't want to pay the fees.

However I still managed to lose a lot of my retirement savings in the last month.

24. temporarily have some credit card balances due to appliance purchase (0% apr until May)
and some airline travel. should be all paid off in 6 months or less.
And the house note.

However we have to get a new vehicle and that is worrisome.

28. Us, us. Mr. Nay and I have always been cheeeeep. Even, and especially,
when we were poor. Now that we are relatively well off, we are still cheap. We hate shopping. I buy a new purse about every 5 years. We buy used cars only. Don't give a crap about fancy clothes.

I do spend money on books, though.

And we do spend some money each year to vacation 2 weeks in Canada, just to get a breather from living in a RW state.

29. I was until a couple weeks ago. Had to borrow $9000.00
for medical bills. I might have to borrow another $10,000.00, since the collar bone I broke six months ago hasn't healed yet, and may require surgery.

30. Ouch...sorry to hear.
We are debt free, but no medical insurance.
So far, out of pocket occasional Dr. bills are cheaper than one month insurance premium.

Medicare will kick in next year.

35. I have medical insurance, but it's a very crappy
$10,000 deductible policy. The $9000 I just had to borrow was for surgery I had a year and a half ago (for the life of me I can't figure out why it takes 18 months just to get a bill). I am self employed, and the high deductible insurance is all I can afford right now, $89 a month.

33. Not long ago, yes
But then a stint back in college to finish a potentially very useful degree: $17k in student loans.

And then a bit of a shocker from my wife: those credit cards she had for "emergencies": $50 k. Perhaps the fiscal stupidity of the current administration will devalue the dollar to the point that this will be chicken feed.
