A symptom of volatility that I've noticed recently.
For a couple of weeks now, the headlines on Yahoo news and the stock market numbers have been out of step with each other. The market is fluctuating so wildly that headlines often say the opposite of what the stock ticker says. The headline will read "stocks up on (some phony reason)" while the ticker shows the stocks being down.

At this very moment, 1:05 Pacific time, the Yahoo headline is "Stocks turn higher as credit markets show signs of easing" and the ticker shows MINUS 1.5%. Earlier today the headlines said stocks were down while the ticker showed +0.5%.

Things are unraveling so fast that even "instant" Internet headlines can't keep up with what's really happening.

1. MSN headline says "Stocks struggle to hold gains" (Dow lost $127)
I have noticed this too. One of the cable network anchors was crowing (too early this afternoon) about this week being a big gainer for the market. I thought, better not bet on that as so much happens nowadays in the last hour.
