A 40 year wish list
I have a couple of wingnuts in the office who like to spout off once in awhile on politics. Usually I ignore their talking points, but they seem all hot and bothered on the new stimulus package. They're passing around this article by the WSJ
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123310466514522309.html

Their point of course is that much of the money in the stimulus package does not seem to be stimulative. Usually I'm pretty well-informed, but I personally cannot justify $335 million for STD research. I know I know, it's a talking point, but are there any rebutalls to this stuff?

1. Recovery AND Reinvestment Act
Investment in our future. Doing all the things that have been neglected the last 8 years.

If we had been investing in health and energy the last 8 years, we probably wouldn't be in as big of a mess.

They better figure out how to talk to working people in a hurry.

2. I agree, but the wingnuts are nit-picking this thing to death
and the average American will come to the conclusion that it's nothing more than a big pork project that won't create jobs. Believe me, this view is pretty widespread in rightwingosphere.

3. There is so much BS in that article that it is hard to rebut it. As to
the individual help for the poor when they increase my food stamps and give me that extra SSI check I will spend it - thus stimulating the economy - then multiply that by all the other people who will be doing the same. The problem with the rich is they think that it all ends up in the bank.

When the CEOs all end up in Gitmo they should be allowed only a food stamp allowance a day for food and maybe some of them should go without medical care to symbolize those who they left without health care in our society. :sarcasm:
