Loose Cannon Pentagon

Now what they do is try to track transactions. And in one of the last audits that was done the transactions were like… there were like $7 trillion in transactions. And they couldn't account for about four trillion of those transactions. Two trillion were unaccountable and two trillion they didn't do, and they accounted for two trillion.

For the first three quarters of 2007, $1.1 trillion in Army accounting entries hadn't been properly reviewed and substantiated, according to the Department of Defense's inspector general. In 2006, $258.2 billion of recorded withdrawals and payments from the Army's main account were unsupported. It's as if the Army had submitted multibillion-dollar expense reports without any receipts.

$1 trillion missing -- Bush plan targets Pentagon accounting
The Department of Defense, already infamous for spending $640 for a toilet seat, once again finds itself under intense scrutiny, only this time because it couldn't account for more than a trillion dollars in financial transactions, not to mention dozens of tanks, missiles and planes.

U.S.'s Missing $Trillions Make Mainstream At Last

Article: Scoop Link
SCOOP EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION
Scoop readers will be well aware of the tale of the missing trillions of dollars from the US Department of Defense. The story of the missing trillions that the world's biggest military organisation has been unable to properly account for has till now been mainly confined to the fringes - though it was originally published in Insight Magazine (A Washington based investigative magazine owned by the Washington Times company) in reports by Kelly Patricia O Meara. The missing monies are a central plank to the work of Scoop Columnists Catherine Fitts & Chris Sanders.

If they're soooo worried about the children and grandchildren why don't they help us find it?

1. THE MISSING MONEY!
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 07:44 AM by Joanne98
Trillions of dollars are missing from the US government. What's going on? Where is the money? How could this happen? Where are the checks and balances? How much more has gone missing? What would happen if a corporation failed to pass an audit like this? Or a taxpayer? Who is responsible for this? Would your banks continue to handle your bank account if you behaved like this? Would your investors continue to buy your securities if you behaved like this? Learn more in the articles below.

"The technology revolution has transformed organizations across the private sector, but not ours, not fully, not yet. We are, as they say, tangled in our anchor chain. Our financial systems are decades old. According to some estimates, we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions. We cannot share information from floor to floor in this building because it's stored on dozens of technological systems that are inaccessible or incompatible."

3. and what about all those taxes that the corporations weren't paying?
I remember a brief mention of that a few years ago ... what happened with that? Oh, I guess that there is one "businessman" being punished for "not paying their taxes" ... Holder ...

5. The Bush Junta has been one, long looting expedition of mind-boggling proportions.
In addition to the issue of how much money went down which rat holes, and how to get at least some of it back, there is another thing that has me worried: What are the intentions of the corporations and individuals who have stolen trillions of dollars from our coffers? How will they be using these huge war chests?

I have theorized about a potential private war against Venezuela, for instance--a war that I suspect Donald Rumsfeld to be involved in planning--in which local fascist militias (in Venezuela's oil rich state of Zulia, on the Caribbean, and adjacent to Colombia), Colombian rightwing paramilitary death squads and possibly rogue (or even official) elements of the Colombian military*, Blackwater (active in Colombia), and entities like Exxon Mobil, instigate a fascist civil war, with the fascists in Zulia declaring their "independence" from Venezuela, and setting up a fascist mini-state in control of the oil. In Dec '07, Rumsfeld published an op-ed in the Washington Post, entitled "The Smart Way to Defeat Tyrants Like Chavez," in which he urges "swift action" by the U.S. in support of (Bushwhack) "friends and allies" in South America. And this last September, the US ambassador in Bolivia funded and organized just such a secessionist scheme in Bolivia's gas and oil rich eastern provinces. (Bolivia's president Evo Morales threw the US ambassador out of the country because of it--and South America's new 'common market' group--UNASUR--effectively intervened in support of the Morales government.**)

There is a lot of evidence that the Bushwhacks have been planning such scheme to gain control of Venezuela's oil, including their inexplicable reconstitution of the US 4th Fleet in the Caribbean, which has been surveiling and harassing Venezuela's oil coast--and which has spooked even Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, who said that the 4th Fleet poses a threat to Brazil's oil reserves on the Atlantic coast as well. I won't go into all of the evidence for a war plot against Venezuela here. I just wanted to point out, a) how Obama's election may be causing a re-thinking of this plan, to make it feasible without US military support, and b) how would it be funded?

Which is where the missing trillions of US tax dollars may come in.

---------------------

*(The Bushwhacks have larded $6 BILLION in military aid on the narco-fascist thugs running Colombia.)

**(Shortly after the Bolivian coup was defeated, Michele Batchlet, president of Chile--who had played a crucial role in UNASUR's intervention in support of the Morales government--visited a group of investors in the U.S., and told them the following joke: "Why has there never been a coup against the government in the United States?" she asked. Answer: 'Because there are no U.S. embassies in the United States!")
