Discover just shortened the pay period
Discover, of course, has been one of those credit cards with "double cycle" billing. If one pays the January invoice in full, but then only part of the February, all the expenses from both January and February are used to calculate finance charge.

We have had Discover for many years - paying in full each month - and the due date always used to be a month from the statement date. If the statement was closed on January 10, the payment was due on February 9, or 10. Now it is shortened it by five days.

I will have to wonder how many card holders will end up with a late fee, since they are used to pay their Discover charges at a certain date each month.

1. I Just Noticed This
M;y payment has been due on the 4th or 5th for as long as I can remember, now it was due on the 31st of May. I noticed it at the last minute. Not very happy with this change.

4. Why unhappy?
Do you wait until the last minute to pay for some reason? Are you paying in full, or just the minimum?

7. Hi Twix
I am not happy for two reasons. The first is that it came as a surprise to me. I guess I should actually look at the payment due date more closely, but given the number of years it has been due on the same day I was in the habit of apparently not looking anymore.

I was paying it in full. The second reason is that I don't get paid weekly but on a more spread out basis. I get paid at the start of the month so I usually had time to deposit and pay this bill but now with this due date I will not have the luxury of waiting for a new pay check before having to pay this bill. It will just effect the budgeting, such as it is. I usually charge prescriptions and medical visits which tend to drive the balance up.

3. I noticed this at the last minute also...
thankfully you can still pay your Discover bill at Sears. Went down there the day before it was due. A late charge may show up on your next statement if you pay at Sears either the day before or on the due date, but it will be cleared off in a few weeks, once the payment is completely processed.
