"... we were told that the Stimulus bill would halt unemployment at 8%?"
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 05:55 PM by Schema Thing

That's a quote from a Libertarian idiot on another forum. It's not true, is it?

Does anyone have a specific quote or data I can refute that statement with?

1. Don't be defensive -
that's one great big fault of liberals, immediately going into a defensive posture, assuming the speaker is right.

Screw that.

Ask that person to show you where he got that information.

Work from there.

Time to start adjusting attitudes, my friend. Put up or shut up - that's what you tell them when they make unfounded statements.

Watch what happens............................

5. Correct. I've been asking the crazy birthers
and death panelists (I just made that one up!) to prove what they are claiming. I keep throwing "he's gunna?" in their faces. "Show me" works great, too. Say it loud and firm and laugh in their faces often.

7. Exactly -
the mentality - and I see it far too often around here, as in the OP - is "Help me so that I can refute what ******* is saying, please!"

Why the hell should you refute anything? As if their claims have any validity?

Bullshit.

Prove it.

Show me where you got that information, and it had better be a viable and reliable source.

If you can't prove it, screw off. You're a liar and a cheat, and nothing you say is of any value.

THAT is how liberal should be handling these thugs. But, man, it kills me to see this, over and over, this supplication, this "Help me," this nonsense, when they should be standing up to these morons by throwing their mindless and groundless allegations right back at them.

I'm sick of liberals rolling over and playing dead, dammit.....................

18. AP article 6/30/09
To boost support for his stimulus, Obama’s economic team released a report that estimated unemployment wouldn’t rise above 8 percent with a stimulus package, according to Associated Press. Even without a stimulus, Obama’s team echoed the CBO claim that the economy would shed 3-4 million more jobs, reaching 9 percent unemployment by 2010............. that is in fact what we were told, that with the stimulus package we could hold unemployment at 8 percent, nothing to argue about. it is what it is..

8. I did say "it's not true, is it?"
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 06:20 PM by Schema Thing
I thought that expressed anything but a position of "assuming the speaker is right".

for one thing, this douchebag is NEVER right, the only variation is whether or not he's wrong because he's wrong, or he's wrong because he's lying. I've come to believe he's usually (and in this case) wrong because he's outright lying or obfuscating.

12. Good, well done -
but you're far more polite than I'd have been.

"Prove that statement" has always worked for me.

But, NEVER defend when you should be on the offensive. It just empowers those nitwits and gives them the confidence to keep spreading their crap.

They're all liars, all of them. Never forget that.........................

4. No - the hope was to keep it below 10% but it was more a guarantee of it going higher
if we didn't act then if we did.

6. True
according to their initial predictions.

Unemployment would peak at just under 8% with the stimulus bill, well over 9% without it.

That's one source I found, apparently the new york times had it first.

9. I saw a poll a couple days ago, I think only
27% actually think the Stimulus Bill has done any good. I know it has helped because I receive $25 more in my unemployment, my unemployment has been extended and while I am on unemployment I can get an 80% tax credit on heath insurance. But I am still on unemployment and the employment picture doesn't appear to be improving!

17. My concern is for the next couple of months.
I'm afraid that anyone that had an interest in purchasing a car has just done so. I can see the next 1-4 months a being tough in the auto industry. I don't know what percentage of the economy is driven by the auto industry, but I could invision a pullback.

15. I learned to tell them to do their own research
and then tell them that THEIR sources ar BS and to "try again and dig deeper".

It's impossible to reason with a conservative.

Facts don't penetrate them. "Why change a perfectly good opinion even if it's wrong?", they seem to say.
Conservatives are good at memorization and very trainable. They get praise and reward from external sources at school and the job. This is interpreted as, "If I know it, it must be good, must be right." Done deal once they have BS drubbed into their heads. They seem so confident and this is from society reinforcing them at every feat of memory or quickly learned skill.

They can recount every branch on every tree. But they can't see the forest, let alone an eco system.
