The American Gotterdammerung
Throughout the book “Gone with the Wind” there is a recurring theme of the Gotterdammerung, a winnowing out of the weak and the strong coming through. In the pre-Civil War South, Southerners lived quietly, going about their life, never believing that anything would ever change. When Fort Sumter fired the first shot, igniting the Civil War, things changed and would remain changed. There was no going back. During the war, families were splintered as sons, fathers, uncles, nephews, and cousins went off to fight. Women stayed behind and did their best to support and supply the troops. Some also went about life as usual, never really believing that anything had changed. They continued to dance, hold parties, and kept their slaves. The only significant difference is that many families began losing their family members because of the battles raging.

2. Enjoy it? No...it's too much of a cartoon "history" of America, as protrayed by the conservatives
instead of real history, which can't condense 150 years in 27 paragraphs. All milk, no meat.

3. who wrote this shit?
Seriously. The simple facts are so effed up it's pathetic. Here's an excellent example of total :wtf:

"Throughout the seventies race riots rocked the nation on a regular basis and war broke out in Southeast Asia.
The war in Vietnam marked a significant change in which how the public viewed war. The draft was instated (as usual during a time of war), but this time there was a different attitude."

So according to this ignorant and incompetent "writer," war 'broke out' in Southeast Asia...sometime in the 70s? Huh? From memory, we got into Vietnam in the last 50s/early 60s, as 'consultants.' Escalated and increased our involvement in the 60s, especially under Johnson. Protests were going strong in the late 60s. In '67, when I was 14 years old, I was invited by the Delaware County Peace Action Group to coach draftees on how to avoid. We got out of Vietnam in the early 70s, shortly before the "author" of the linked article seems to think war mysteriously 'broke out' there. seriously...:wtf:

6. Race riots in the '70s?
You're right-- the author seems to be confusing the '70s with the '60s.
