I have a question about this 308,000 jobs report
Is this one of those things where they release some good news, then two days later release some "amended" figures which are WAY worse? See, the original report is front page news, but amendments aren't even reported. So, what gives?

4. Try here...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=1334888

<snip>
Of the 308,000 "new" jobs:
20,000 returning California grocery workers idled from dispute
47,000 return of striking and locked-out workers
71,000 were EXISTING construction jobs for workers who were idled in February attributed to bad weather.

That's 138,000 jobs that were there in the first place.
There was no increase in manufacturing jobs. And most of the jobs were retail clerks and hamburger flippers paid $3.50-$7.00/hr below average wages..
<end>

great info from TruthIsAll...

peace;
rob

9. AND, where are the numbers, in the same time period,
of those terminated, lost unemployment insurance benefits, no longer looking. :crazy:
I have firsthand knowledge that several months ago, for a couple of months, the department of labor was also taking statistics of those terminated (to my knowledge, never reported), then it stopped abruptly. :shrug:

5. Blowing sunshine up the arses of GOP morons
...is what these initial reports are all about. Tell a moron everything is rosy, he'll be a happy moron. Amend the report in a day or so, and he'll ignore it, 'cause he doesn't want anything to harsh his mellow.

These bastards know their supporters well. They know "additional information" will simply be tossed aside.

7. I think the numbers are a flat out lie
I'm unemployed, and I haven't seen any uptick in available jobs over the last month. I work with PC's and the job market still looks flat, even though the Labor Dept. said that gains were 'across the board.' It's probably easier to hide your lie if it is spread out.

But here's a few of thoughts:

First of all, I hope the reports are true, and millions of people like myself can get on with their lives.

Second, if this is true, and continues, shrub will use it for all it's worth to prop up his election campaign. But Kerry and the other elected Dem's should not get scared. One in a row is nothing to crow about unless you are a complete incompetent (which * is). Kerry should hammer on shrubs record, not on current, unverifiable statistics.

Third, real unemployment is much higher than they report, and people know when they are out of work, or afraid they might be. Let's not forget that unemployment actually went up in March - despite repukes best efforts to make as many people ineligible as possible. I haven't worked more than 6 months out of this administration, and I have never been eligible for any relief nor have I ever been counted on any unemployment statistics.

10. How to tell what is really happening
Being in sales, I believe nothing happens until something is sold. I have been recieving the help wanted ads from monster and hotjobs for the last 20 months and nothing has changed. Mortgage, autos, pharmas, real estate and scams. These are the only sectors hiring. I don't track retail because it is not a liveable wage.

Now, where is the trickle down from these industries? China, India, Phillipines...etc. That is what is different from all other recessions. It trickles OUT, not down. :grr:

8. and they give no analysis of the jobs that are actually new
Judging from the looks of things around here, a high number of the truly new jobs are in pawn shops and thrift stores.

Oh sure they slipped back to earth in the last two quarters, but those numbers last October were GREAT!
