"Free Trade can only be imposed by a strong, authoritarian state"
This is an interesting tidbit I read in a book I'm reading, "Civilization: A New History of the Western World" in the context of Victorian Britain. The author states that controlled and regulated markets are the norm, part of the rules of pre-modern societies.

1. That sounds like a tacit admission of the inexorable march
of unregulated capitalism to monopoly, wealth concentration, and the enslavement of the masses through debt, something that can be enforced only by totalitarianism.

Even then, it's only temporary. We slaves are an ornery lot and once in a very great while we realize there are more of us than there are of them and we overthrow them.
