Hydro plant gets thumbs-down - Namibia

Windhoek - Plans by Namibia to build a $45m hydro-electricity plant on the Okavango River posed "significant ecological risks", experts said in a feasibility report released late on Monday.

The year-long preliminary assessment study, commissioned by power utility Nampower, concluded that the high wall, sluices and turbines of the 20-Megawatt power plant would prevent the movement of sand sediments to the Okavango Delta in neighbouring Botswana.

"The sediment load, and particularly sand, is absolutely vital to the ecological functioning of the Okavango Delta," the report said.

Okavango is world's only inland riverine delta & is truly a global treasure . . .

Also, I havent been there yet

At least I've spent some time along the Makong before china f*cks that river up with all of their dams
