Power play: Cuomo will back bid to shut Indian Point plant

By ABBY LUBY
SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Thursday, July 12th 2007, 4:00 AM

State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will join the fight to shut the Indian Point nuclear power plant, just 25 miles north of New York City in Westchester.

Cuomo will announce today his support of Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano in his legal battle with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the federal agency that oversees Indian Point, the Daily News has learned.

Indian Point was in the flight path of the jets that crashed into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

The plant was built on the banks of the Hudson River 35 years ago in a then-rural area of Westchester. Today, more than 300,000 people live within 10 miles of the plant. New nuclear plants are no longer allowed to be built in such densely populated areas.

1. "Google is your friend"
"Google is your friend" is almost as horrifying a cliché as "nuclear 9-11". So I did some friendly checking.

Keywords: nuclear 9-11 returned 2,280,000 results

Keywords: "nuclear 9-11" returned 23,200 results

Keywords: nuclear terrorism returned 15,800,000 results

Keywords: reactor terrorism returned 1,610,000 results

Keywords: nuclear al-Qaeda returned 2,330,000 results

Keywords: attack nuke returned 2,060,000 results

Keywords: attack reactor returned 2,060,000 results

Keywords: nuclear proliferation returned 5,790,000 results

That's about 32 million articles. Naturally, I would expect that many of them are not unique "hits".

And for all the search terms that I used:
Keywords: nuclear 9-11 terrorism al-Qaeda nuke reactor proliferation returned 33,500 results

Getting scared yet? Somebody is.

But it's only exploiting fear when Bush and CHENEY do it ... right?
