World Parks Congress - America A "Basket Case" On Climate Change
Bush won't change his 'obstinate' views, scientists warn
From The Mercury (SA)
9/10/03

"US President George W. Bush had become a 'basket case' on the issue of global climate change and the rest of the world should not waste time trying to get him to change his obstinate views.

That was the blunt message at the World Parks Congress in Durban yesterday from Claude Martin, Director-General of Swiss-based conservation body WWF International.

EDIT

'Frankly, the US is a basket case and a major stumbling block,' he said, noting that about half of the ice mass of the Swiss Alps had disappeared and that glaciers had been reduced to about a third of their original length.

According to the WWF, Russian and US power companies head the list of the world's top 20 polluting companies."
