Tornados (37?) hit Missouri, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Illinois and Oklahoma
FYI, Michael Crichton assures me (and Congress) that this can be attributed to ecoterrorists with rocket-propelled lightning rods. Bankrolled by the Sierra Club.

WHEATLAND, Wis. (AP) -- A freak cluster of tornadoes raked across an unseasonably warm Midwest, demolishing houses, knocking railroad cars off their tracks and even temporarily halting justice in one courthouse.

Record temperatures were reported across much of the country Monday, and storms continued to pummel the nation's midsection as darkness fell. More warmth and storms were in store for Tuesday.

Tornadoes were reported or suspected Monday in southwest Missouri, southeastern Wisconsin, Arkansas, Illinois and Oklahoma. Two people were killed in Missouri.

(...)

"I have never seen damage like this in the summertime when we have potential for tornadoes," Sheriff David Beth said. "To see something like this in January is mind-boggling to me. This is just unimaginable to me."

3. You have to ask: Does Crichton need money or is he really that stupid?
He surely has missed the boat on climate change. Is he the Bill O'Reilly for Exxon?

4. He read Skeptical Environmentalist, and was overly impressed.
He makes it clear in his author's note that his skepticism is sincere. I assume the ecoterrorist weather control plot was his attempt to make it into a thriller. Bad idea.

A lot has happened since he wrote that book. I wonder what he thinks about events since 2003.

The single most unforgivable thing I think he did was accept Congress' invitation to speak as an "expert witness" on climate change.

5. To be fair (and balanced!), this also happened in the 1950's.
In fact, it was even warmer one winter, and tornadoes formed in the same swath of the region.
