9/2/2008Portugal’s power generating capacity from renewable sources at the end of November was 7,397 megawatts, according to official figures released earlier this week.
The Directorate-General of Energy and Geology (DGEG) said 2,096 megawatts of the renewable power total came from Portugal’s 151 wind farms, comprising 1,126 turbines.
Wind power projects with a power output of 3,332 megawatts were licensed in Portugal at the end of November, the DGEG said, and this energy source is expected to develop its total generating capacity to 2,800 megawatts by the end of this year.
Hydroelectric power is still the primary source of Portugal’s non-fossil generated electricity, with dams across the country having a 4,805 megawatt capacity in November, the DGEG said.
