Renewable energy generating capacity reached 7,397MW in November

9/2/2008

Portugal’s power generating capacity from renewable sources at the end of November was 7,397 megawatts, according to official figures released earlier this week.

The Directorate-General of Energy and Geology (DGEG) said 2,096 megawatts of the renewable power total came from Portugal’s 151 wind farms, comprising 1,126 turbines.

Wind power projects with a power output of 3,332 megawatts were licensed in Portugal at the end of November, the DGEG said, and this energy source is expected to develop its total generating capacity to 2,800 megawatts by the end of this year.

Hydroelectric power is still the primary source of Portugal’s non-fossil generated electricity, with dams across the country having a 4,805 megawatt capacity in November, the DGEG said.

Biomass accounted for 357 megawatts of Portugal’s national energy production in November. TPN/Lusa

1. Most of the industrialized countries are making the logical move to
renewable energy while the U.S. energy policy continues to be written by the fossil fuel and nuclear interests. The old energy giants are continuing to make obscene amounts of profits while the energy consumers continue to struggle with their energy costs. Further, and far more significantly, the environment continues to plunge toward a point of no return from the ill effects of global warming.

The rich old bastards who are raking in the profits figure that by the time the environment has become dangerous for human existence, they will already be dead. They apparently don't even care about their own children, let alone ours. Do they think that the stockpiled money will give them survival chances even though the livable environmental conditions have collapsed?
