Bush flip flops on global warming

White House cites human role in global warming
Policy reversal on climate change denied by Administration

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Warmer temperatures in North America since 1950 were probably caused in part by human activity, the Bush administration said in a report that appeared to contradict the White House position there was no clear scientific proof on the causes of global warming.

In a report sent to Congress this week, the administration noted a recent government-sponsored study supported the view of many scientists that human action from driving automobiles to running power plants helped cause global warming.

"North American temperature changes from 1950 to 1999 were unlikely to be due only to natural climate variations," the report said.

Warmer temperatures that occurred from 1900 to 1949 were "likely due" to natural causes, the report added.

2. Where's the policy reversal?
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 10:59 AM by Viking12
Asked why the administration had changed its position on what causes global warming, Mr. Bush replied, "Ah, we did? I don't think so."

The president’s science advisor John Marburger says the USGCRP annual report has, "no implications for policy."

The 2003 edition of “Our Changing Planet”, while perhaps somewhat more staid in comparison to the 2005 report, nonetheless contains numerous references to human-caused climate change and predictions of its future, negative impacts. The fact that the 2005 report echoes much of the language of earlier reports does not seem to me to be a striking change or motivated by any possible “shift in focus” of the Bush Administration.

7. Since when has science had ANY policy implications w. these clowns?
This doesn't change a single Goddamned thing, except perhaps to further hammer home the point of what a bunch of deluded hacks these people are.

6. Uhh, What?
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 11:07 AM by Beetwasher
That wouldn't explain sharp spikes in average temperatures...There would be a gradual increase in warming over hundreds of years, not sudden spikes in decades, like we do have...

Where did you get this nonsensical talking point? Rush Limbaugh?

Do you have any clue about environmental science? Duh!
