Ohh! Emergency Management People gettin' ALL whipped up!
About the st helens eruption. If ash, over today and tomorrow, it gets to portland (50 miles away). If Fri then east.

Local tv getting all geared up for many hours of drivel about whatever isn't happening yet. Then they get to be a real pain in the ass.

And of course, the St Helens activity is in NO way associated with, complicit with, or in concert with ANY earthquakes in California. Got that? The govt says so.

1. The government is really saying that?
They are denying plate tectonics?

What do they think causes earthquakes? God?

4. St Helens and the Parkfield quake.....................
the very first thing I thought when the Parkfield quake hit was that it had someting to do with the recent activity at St Helens. Yes, sportsfans, I am aware that they are very far apart, but they are part of the same plate/fault system. I think this is just an indication that the Pacific plate is doing a little more moving lately. That Parkfield quake was years overdue (was supposed to be 16 yrs ago), and wasn't the last St Helens activity about 16 yrs ago? So they would have happened about the same time, but Parkfield and the San Andreas got "hung up". I am not reading too much into all this. I just think they may both be caused by the same actions in the same plate system so they happen together.

5. I don't know too much about the geological specifics, but I think you're
wrong on this. I believe that the interactions are determined by different plate interactions entirely.

6. I saw a t-shirt on the street recently
that would be perfect for them. It read....

"Stop Plate Tectonics" :)
