Brussels - New European Union-wide legislation introducing a pet passport will be fully applicable from Friday, allowing pets and their owners to travel more easily within the EU, the European Commission said on Wednesday.
Cats, dogs and ferrets will need to have one when being transported to another EU state, providing proof that it has been vaccinated against rabies and evidence of other vaccinations.
The passport will be the only document required in all EU countries except Ireland, Malta, Sweden and the United Kingdom, where stricter criteria apply, said the European Commission.
