Solar-energy company (Evergreen) to build $35 million plant in Midland County (MI)

A new solar-energy factory costing $35 million to $50 million is on its way to Midland County.

Massachusetts-based Evergreen Solar Inc. hopes to break ground soon on a new Michigan facility that will make a component used in its solar panels.

''We'd like to do something in the next two or three months and get this plant running next year,'' said Michael El-Hillow, chief financial officer for Evergreen Solar.

El-Hillow said Tuesday the company is finalizing a site location, which is expected to be somewhere near the factories operated by Dow Chemical Co. and Dow Corning Corp. in Midland.
