Who Killed The American Car? - Time To Revisit This Movie?
I remember a few years ago this movie came out with little fanfare. However, with gas prices now exploding through the roof, it would be great if this movie gets a second look, since it just underscores the shortsightedness of the Bush administration, as well as the degree to which the Bush administration let major oil companies and car manufacturers dictate energy policy.

Of course, it is unlikely that any major network would show this film, since it might offend the Bush administration and corporate sponsors.

1. It's actually "Who Killed the Electric Car?"
Great movie, but made me very mad when I saw it last year.

3. Electric cars still use energy
They need the exact same amount of energy to move as a gas-powered car.

You have the advantage of moving the exhaust-intensive power generation away from populated areas but that's about it.

Won't save us.

4. No they don't.
An internal combustion engine only uses 12% of the energy in the gas. An electric car uses over 90% of the input electricity.

Big difference.

5. First, got a link?
Second, how much electric energy is lost sending it over wires, charging the battery, etc?

9. Here are some links
Some links from the FAQ on the AFS Trinity website http://www.afstrinity.com/faq.htm

Even though Extreme Hybrids, when operated in EV mode, are zero emission vehicles, isn't it true that coal power plants (which are often used to produce electricity) can produce just as much or more pollution and CO2 as gas-only cars? No. Even if XH™ cars were powered exclusively by the dirtiest coal available they would still have much lower emissions than conventional cars. Moreover, there are many places where electricity is generated by hydro power, nuclear power and increasingly, by renewable energy sources such as wind turbines. The trend is for electricity to be generated more and more by renewables. Visit these sites for specific information about how plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles and the power plants that charge them produce significanty less air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions than conventional vehicles.

8. You mean electric cars don't use energy?
Wow.

Who knew?

And here I was thinking that Faraday's laws counted.

I feel like such a fool for believing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday%27s_law_of_induction">this crap

I think I'll write this up and submit it to Foreign Affairs, the physics journal that published that real Einstein, Amory Lovins.

Electric cars don't use energy...

...wow.

There's a Nobel Prize in this for sure.

7. GM took every copy of the movie out to a desert and crushed them!
Luckily, I still have mine on DVD.

Don't tell.

Seriously, I wonder if the owners would be willing to post the full version via creative commons or archive.org?

Big Oil DOES NOT want you to know about the endless supply of energy bubbling in your bathtub...
