Should Madison ban the drive-through?
First it was a proposed ban on plastic bags.

Now, a member of the influential Madison Plan Commission wants to ban the restaurant drive-through -- or at least restrict the ubiquitous symbol of America's auto-centric lifestyle.

"Given the concern about all the carbon going into the atmosphere, I'm not sure we should be building more places for people to sit idling in their cars," says Eric Sundquist, who was appointed to the citizen panel by Mayor Dave Cieslewicz this spring.

4. How about reintroducing car hop service?
That way, people turn off their cars while waiting.

6. Maybe not even for them.
I think the problems are lazyness and people don't want to go inside and have to deal with other people. You know the guys over there swearing like no tomorrow and the screaming kids doing whatever they want to. I would rather deal with them though, than to have to sit in a drive-through line for long stints of time. I have gone to the counter and just ordered it to go, simple. It also avoids you finding out they gave no napkins or shorted you on your order or even gave you the wrong order after you're 5 miles down the road. People are just too lazy to get out of their cars most of the time IMHO and fail to realize how much gas that lazyness costs them. The gas station attendant went by the way of the endangered species list because of it being a higher cost to the customers. That one was black and white for these idiots to see, but it's not as obvious to them when sitting in McDonalds drivethru line for 15 minutes. That is also how I believe they spelled it too rather than "through".

7. No need to ban them. They will be useless soon enough.
You think someone is seriously going to sit in a drive through with the engine running when gas is 7 USD and as a results the prices on the menu are sky high?
