The contract value is around €36 million
and the facility is expected to start operation in 2012, expanding the capacity of the existing La Muela pumped storage station by some 850 MW. La Muela II’s electricity supply is expected to deliver reliable and uninterrupted power to the grid to make up for volatile supply from Spain’s booming wind energy parks, said Voith Siemens in a statement.
In related news, Voith Siemens Hydro has signed a contract for the complete supply of mechanical, electrical, automation and balance of plant equipment on a significant hydroelectric project that will add more than 208 MW of capacity to existing locks on the Ohio River. The new generation facilities are planned going online in 2012.
With this project AMP-Ohio will see the development of three new run-of-the-river hydroelectric plants at the existing locks at the sites of Willow Island near Waverly, West Virginia, Cannelton, Indiana and Smithland in Livingston County, Kentucky. Combined, these three projects have an expected capacity of 208 MW with eight bulb machines altogether.
