Calgary, Alberta (AHN) - The Alaskan Legislature will grant TransCanada Corp. an exclusive license to develop a $26 billion gas line that will transport fuel to and from the state of Alaska in the United States and the province of Alberta in Canada.
In a historic vote on Friday in Juneau, senators voted 14 to 5 in favor of TransCanada. This was the first time that the state gave the franchise to one company.
TransCanada submitted a proposal to install a gas pipeline running 1,715 miles from a newly built refinery at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Alberta. Daily capacity of the pipe is estimated at 4.5 billion cubic feet up to a maximum of 5.9 billion cubic feet.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has been lobbying for TransCanada, will sign the Canadian company's license. The state will also provide a $500 million subsidy to the gas line project, which will be discussed in a separate legislation.
TransCanada will soon start the project, which will initially cover engineering, environmental reviews, aboriginal relations and preliminary commercial work.
While everyone is distracted with drilling talk and GOPs in dark chambers, this jewel slides under the radar. And, there is no mention of Texas'
ConocoPhillips nor the
keystone farmers who lost their land.
Maybe its this transaction that causes many Repugs to believe Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is 'the one', McBush's Veep.
