European Heat Wave Death Toll Up To 18,000

LONDON (AP) - There were some 2,000 more deaths in England and Wales during August's heat wave than the average for the period, the government said Friday.

The Office for National Statistics did not directly link the deaths to the hot weather. It had previously said there were 907 more registered deaths than average during the week ending Aug. 15.

The scorching August weather killed more than 18,000 people in other European countries, making it one of the deadliest heat waves in a century, according to an AP survey.

France was worst hit, with an official toll of 14,802 more deaths in August than would be expected.

I'm recalling Hans Blix saying that global warming was the greatest danger we faced--more dangerous than the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

2. "It's God's Wrath" for sin and decadence.

I actually heard a fundie radio preacher make that assertion a while back.
Church attendance down to near zero in some parts of Europe = God turns on the blast furnace. That'll get 'em into the pews! Well, maybe if they installed air conditioning...
