Bush "Reprimands" Blair For Emphasis On Climate Issues - Independent
President Bush has reprimanded Tony Blair for sounding the alarm over global warming and pressing for international action to combat it, senior Washington sources say.

They report that the White House has objected to the Prime Minister placing the issue at the top of the agenda when he heads the G8 group of the world's most powerful nations next year, and to the strong tone of his recent speeches warning of climate change.

Mr Blair is widely seen as the leader best placed to bring the President into serious international negotiation on how to tackle the problem, which he has described as "very, very critical indeed". This follows a U-turn by Greenpeace, which last week withdrew its longstanding support for the Prime Minister's climate policies saying that he "can no longer be given the benefit of the doubt" and "cannot be trusted to resist industry lobbying."

EDIT

The White House said last week that "President Bush strongly opposes any treaty or policy that would cause the loss of a single American job".

1. Frigging moron.
"He opposes any treaty or policy" anon? What the hell does he think he's been up to for the last 4 years?

Every time he opens his mouth, we are incrementally farther down the road to pariah nation status.

2. Unbelievable! This economic issue is such bullshit when it
comes to global warming! First of all they could give a shit about the American worker. As long as they have abortion and homophobia on their side they can burn the constitution! Second, they are protecting their corporate buddies! Duh! They sound the alarm about losing jobs but that's bullshit! I got a letter from Sensenbrenner saying the same bullshit about the economy as to why he doesnt support the Kyoto Protocol. He also claimed the science wasn't convincing enough. I've been sending him scientific articles ever since. If he's such a science wiz he should be up to date. Don't ya think?

4. They can twirl their thumbs and whistle,
but when the melted Icebergs of the Arctic start inching further up on their shores, they'll snap into action. It may be too late at that point.

Visualize for a moment the shoreline in southern London, where the awesome Tower of London stands. Within just a few months, the water is lapping the edges of the Tower. All of England is stunned, alarmed. England is a rather flat country.

New York City: same thing. Water is seeping into the ground floor of office buildings. Panic in downtown.

Does it have to come to this? Why are leaders so unbelievably rigid, unable to see a train wreck coming?

5. But he is protecting our jobs!
Can't you people see? It is not possible to protect the environment and produce jobs. Jobs are bad for the environment. What would you rather have, jobs or a world to live in?

Nero fiddled while Rome burned. America lived in delusion while the world was trashed.
