3-year delay expected at Finnish nuclear plant
Every year they work on it, the schedule gets pushed back a year.
Will they ever finish this Finnish reactor?

3-year delay expected at Finnish nuclear plant
The Associated Press
Published: October 17, 2008

HELSINKI, Finland: The completion of Europe's first pressurized nuclear reactor will be further delayed by three years and is not expected to be online until 2012, Finnish energy officials said Friday.

The postponement was announced by French-German supplier Areva-Siemens, which did not give a reason except to say that "civil construction works will take several months longer than earlier estimated," the TVO utility said.

It was the fourth delay at the site in Olkiluoto, which has been plagued by faulty materials and planning problems since construction began in 2005. The 1,600-megawatt plant was to be online in 2009.

Olkiluoto 3 is the first European Pressurized Reactor, or EPR, meant to eventually replace aging reactors around the world whose designs date from decades ago. France, which is heavily reliant on nuclear power, is also constructing an EPR on the Normandy coast, expected to go into service in 2012.

1. "Europe's first pressurized nuclear reactor"
heh, somebody at the IHT can't read. It is the first of the next generation of European pressurized water reactors, "EPR". By far not the first pressurized nuclear reactor in Europe, nor the first European design for such a reactor.
