University of Kassel in Germany prove that the entire country can be powered by renewables only.
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 11:17 PM by Fledermaus
Scientists from the University of Kassel prove that Germany can power itself entirely by clean renewables in a secure way. In an ongoing experiment called the KombiKraftwerk ('Combined Power Plant'), they link 36 decentralised biogas plants, wind, solar and hydropower installations in a robust network to demonstrate that distributed power can replace both fossil fuels and nuclear power. The network is just as reliable and powerful as a conventional large-scale power station.

The question now is whether distributed power systems can be scaled up. Projections show Germany has enough domestic resources to replace all fossil fuels and nuclear power, and the scientists think the country can achieve full renewables based energy autonomy by mid-century.

1. They "proved" it huh? Well, while they're shivering this winter because their ex-Chancellor's
new company is cutting off their gas supplies, they can all huddle around the cardboard fires in the alley and talk about how much they've proved.

They're full of shit, just like the last 50 years worth of similar "proofs."

Yes, they proved it. But hey, we feel for ya, Little Britches. We can tell your little bitty heart is just breaking.

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummers' Dance lyrics

And so they linked their hands and danced
Round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
When all the shades are gone

"A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand"

We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
we bring a garland gay

Moses and the Shepherd (Rumi)

When you eventually see
through the veils to how things really are,
you will keep saying again
and again,
“This is certainly not like
we thought it was!”
