Bob the Builder
So, I let my kid watch Bob the Builder this week, and there's an episode where Bob is building a greywater irrigation system, and an algae farm. A couple hours later, Phantom Wife comes home and our daughter announced to her "Mommy, did you know that algae can be used for food, and also for soap?"

I thought that was cool, and it also gave me an idea for using PBS shows to educate the kiddies about some of the other important environmental concepts, like Medea ecological theory, Canfield oceans, Younger Dryas events and the Eremozoic Era.

Like, "Bob the Builder and his construction vehicle friends dig mass graves" or "Bob the Builder helps plow fields in Antarctica" or "Bob the Builder builds a vault for storing genetic samples for future reconstruction of dead ecosystems"

Children are our future, and it's never too early for them to start learning that we might not have a future!

1. As the great grandmother of 8 babes, I spend a lot of time watching
Nick jr. and am always amazed at the educational value of much of it. They watched Dora clean up a beach and all wanted to go right then and there to the beach to clean. We do not even have a beach. One thing though they also learn some negative things. Two of then learned how to pout via Tole on Kai Lan. At least they are learning something besides war.

2. On the other hand, there is Thomas the train, or whatever:
The most class-oriented, slave for Sir Top-um Hat (for low wages) drivel. It is awful. "Engine Francine is too old to haul heavy loads. Oh, please Sir Hat, let her work some more!" Paraphrasing, but seems sick to me.

3. We took our son to see a live "Bob The Builder" show about recycling.
The show was complete and total crap, to be honest, but it was a very good message. Apart from when it was finally over, my favorite part was when they blatantly ripped off the music and choreography of "Greased Lightning". :)
