(AU) Companies 'may have lied' over emissions trading
Greens Senator Christine Milne says several mining and manufacturing companies presented evidence that was materially different from what they told their shareholders.

She says the Senate needs to investigate the discrepancies.

"It would be contempt of the Senate if it could be demonstrated that the companies have been telling the Senate one thing and their shareholders another thing, or exaggerating to the Senate the likely impact in order to try to secure a better outcome when their shareholders are left in the dark," Senator Milne said.

" come to the Senate and they say one thing - the impact of a carbon price - but they don't say the same thing to their shareholders.

"Yet it's their shareholders who are meant to be ticking off on some of the strategic direction of these companies."
