Solar Roofing Tiles: A Stylish Solution for Sustainable Living
Very cool alternative to rooftop solar panels. And, it seems very practical as well.

SRS Energy has designed an attractive roofing product that blends right in with roofing tiles many of us are familiar with. Sole Power Tiles, touted as being the first ever “building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roofing product designed for curved roofing systems”, made its grand debut at the American Institute of Architects 2009 National Convention and Design Exposition earlier this year.

SRS Energy has teamed up with the largest American manufacturer of 100 percent recyclable, all-natural clay roofing tiles, US Tile. Using cutting edge technology, the two companies have created several unique styles of products that seamlessly integrate with curved roofing tiles. The tiles provide a cost-effective alternative for homeowners by using renewable power to generate electricity without the bulky look of traditional solar panels.

3. Great Question
The website says the price is based off an estimate. But it doesn't list any numbers--a little disappointing.

4. Most solar plating pays for itself...within 20 years.
As much as I love the idea. It's not economically obtainable by most middle class (let alone lower class) families.

6. Let me help you: This is a scheme for rich consumers to pay a couple of bucks to tell
themselves that they were something other than rich indifferent consumers.

2. Hell, White roofing would reflect a lot of heat back and really drop
the cost of cooling a home.

all that black just absorbs the heat.

7. I'm really annoyed with myself.
So I re-did my roof a couple years ago. We went with Forest Green, which wasn't actually available in the Pacific Northwest. So it was custom ordered. Didn't cost anything, just some wait time on the shipment.

Then I got to thinking about it, and realized I could have ordered white roofing from a different climate zone.

I haven't been able to justify spending money on Air Conditioning, since we only get a month or two of really bad heat here, but using white roofing might have made that month or two much more bearable.

Now I've got to slog around in my attic, and put up more insulation to get the same effect.

9. I see they're using Uni-Solar technology
That makes sense. http://www.uni-solar.com/index.asp">Uni-Solar has been marketing peel-and-stick solar for steel roofs, and “solar shingles” for a few years now.

So, these people are wrapping it around roofing tiles…
