1. I LOVE Toyota! They need plug-in hybrids though.
And solar panels are getting so thin - they could incorporate them into the car bodies so you could charge your battery while you car sits in a sunny parking lot.

4. Toyota has been ahead of the curve for a long time
We drive a gasoline powered 1990 Geo Prizm (99% Toyota Corolla-only the radio is GM) with over 200,000 miles on the engine. We drive in the Ozarks, and still average around 301-32 mpg.

5. I went to the Chicago Auto show two years ago...
All the foreign makers were showing off hybrids, alternative fuels, low emissions...

What did Detroit have to offer?

Penis extenders with bigger engines, bigger bodies, more HP, lower fuel mileage, higher cost, etc. Not an innovation or discussion of one in sight. I pointed it out to my Dad who was with me (retired UAW) and he just shook his head and said "Japan is going to kick our ass again!"

Kind of summed it up right there on the spot.

Ford has a hybrid, but they are well behind the curve. Toyota and Honda are the ones to watch (again!)

7. I have the Honda HX Civic hybrid
and its my first Honda but at around 47-50 mpg it is a good investment in just the fuel savings. The higher the price at the pump the faster and bigger the return. Also there is a $2000 Ultra Low Emmissions Vehicle (ULEV) tax deduction you can take on your federal return the year you buy a new one.

8. I've heard good things about the Civic Hybrid
Good to see that their fuel estimates are working out for you in real life! :hi:
