Are license plates recyclable?
They are made of aluminum, aren't they?

6. Thanks, will do.
Tomorrow is trash and curb recycle day.

And... had to get new ones, happens here every seven years.

9. Amazing, NM doesn't ever demand you change the plates
unless you're registering a new vehicle. I had my last plates for 14 years.

Of course, I get the traditional red on yellow plates, the Castillian colors, rather than the new fangled plates that look like every other state's plates. NM still offers us that choice, and I take them up on it.

10. They do this so they don't run out of numbers and letters
So you may start with ABC 123 format and after seven years you switch to the 123 ABC format. After I've finally memorized the first one.

Yes, MN have many choices. One of them, a "Patriotic" one had a background of a waving flag which, as other notice, made it hard to distinguish the letters and numbers from the background. So they changed it to a cleaner one.

I just used the basic

13. My understanding on the 7 year repalcement thing was the relfective coating.
It decays. Then it's harder for the police to get you with LIDAR. It's an UV or IR reflective coating, I believe. At least, that was the justification given in this state. Mileage may vary.

2. I throw mine in the metal-recycle skip...
...with the tin cans at the transfer center, on those rare occasions when I get new ones.

The Dumpenführer, a very powerful man in rural Maine, didn't object.

5. Yes, very popular in Florida
where everyone is from someplace else.

When we lived there, for two years, we brought ours to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles - or whatever it is called there - where many were hanging on the wall.

7. In NYS, we need to turn them into the DMV
You may want to check the laws in your state…

11. I got the new ones from the county office when I paid the renewal fee
and they did not say anything about turning them in, but will call them.

8. You may want to cut or bend it beyond use.
Just to make sure that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
