Energy, The Environment and Humanity's Future (slide show)
The guest speaker at our DEC meeting last night is the principle research scientist at the Florida Solar Energy Center. He walked us through this slide show. Humbling stuff, but well worth the time to look through it. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but there may be material in it that can be used when speaking with others.

1. Great show! Thanks for the link.
However, I think that the presenter is too optimistic. Forcing this kind of information on the vast majority of people will cause one of two things -- a mass panic, or a mass denial.

People are left miserable by the "American way of life", yet they will hang on to it like grim death (which isn't very far behind if we keep going in this direction).

I'm going to work for change on this, starting with my own lifestyle (in which I already do several things, but not nearly enough). I'm just more of the mindset that it's important to do because it's the right thing to do, not out of optimism for a positive outcome in the end.

2. Yes, the presenter was very clear about doing a tap dance.
Alarmists tend to be brushed aside as irrational. It seemed like he was hoping to convey the urgency without looking like a nutcase.
