Residents of Vinalhaven, Maine, wonder why they didn't ask more questions about their wind turbines,

before they were installed.

Too late now.

Two videos.

Number One:

"One thing was that our...we as a community were so caught up in the excitement of this progressive thing that we could be a part of that we didn't do our research..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quSkEbYnygA&feature=related

"We should be able to trust that what is promised is what is delivered...but for myself at night and I get waken up one, two, three times a night...

...You can't say you know what it's like if you don't live there..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaxkFhdrvy4&feature=related

These videos are from a documentary on the subject that will be completed later this year, when wind power will still be not shutting, as it hasn't for 30 years of big talk, a single dangerous fossil fuel plant anywhere on the planet.

3. Wind turbines have NOTHING to do with saving the planet, contrary to dumb public fantasy.
They're garbage, pure and simple, the same kind of distributed energy idea that lead people to propose that the automobile would solve the problem with the railroads.

4. If you knew anything about this (which you don't), you would know that Vinalhaven
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 08:41 PM by jpak
undertook an extensive and thoughtful and ENTIRELY OLD SCHOOL DEMOCRATIC approach to siting wind turbines on the island.

And these turbines will save island residents a bundle in electricty costs.

Some folks living (very) close to the turbines, however, have had legitimate noise complaints from these rigs - the noise won't kill them, and the turbine installers are undertaking noise abatement measures.

Now

Living next to a petroleum refinery in Nuclear-New-Jersey-Which-is-a-Fraud most certainly would have *adverse* health effects on the people exposed to their *toxic* emissions.

I remember driving down I-95 through NJ at night as a kid in the '60's. It was indeed a *hellish* experience - I wondered how anyone could actually *live* under those circumstances...it would drive most people CRAZY....

And - if you happen to be a sea creature living in Barnegat Bay New Jersey - the probability that you would be sucked into Oyster Creek and KILLED is rather high.

:D

6. I don't actually believe that any gas men know or care about the people of Vinalhaven.
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 11:48 PM by NNadir
And let's face it, 100% of the "wind will save us" and "solar will save us" creeps are gas apologists, from Amory Lovins, from Gerhard Schroeder, on down...

To have a "wind will save us" advocate muttering incoherently about New Jersey refineries while loaded has no bearing on wind turbines on Vinalhaven. In fact, any comments about New Jersey are irrelevant to the situation on Vinalhaven and are a red herring designed to distract.

Somehow, I expect that the people of Vinalhaven know whether they've been lied to by people who have a very short vision.

If we must, however, address the catcalls from the peanut gallery in the Allen's Coffee Brandy section of the minor league backwater teams, I can say that there are NO refineries near where I live, nor are there any wind turbines, thank goodness.

I favor the immediate phase out of all dangeorus fossil fuel facilities, including those owned by companies that pay Amory Lovins oodles of money.

It's a real victor for dangerous natural gas companies, of course, that just last week, Maine lifted its moratorium on new gas lines through the state, showing that Maine has no intention whatsoever of phasing out dangerous fossil fuels.

I oppose all dangerous fossil fuel lines in my state or any other state.

You, um, don't. You couldn't care less how much dangerous fossil fuel is burned in Maine.

7. Mainers might consider burning trees-er, biomass instead of natural gas
but with no Maine Yankee and no power from Vermont Yankee, how the hell can they watch Pats games on TV when the wind isn't blowing?

8. ummm....Maine generates 25% of its electricity from biomass and 25% from hydro
Edited on Mon Apr-19-10 08:40 AM by jpak
but you didn't know that did you...

Maine generates MORE electricty from renewables than natural gas.

But you didn't know that did you...

Maine exports 40% of the electricity it produces.

If Maine stopped exporting electricity, it could satisfy 60% of its in-state power requirements with *renewables* today.

today

but you didn't know that either....

Maine's goal is to install 2000 MW of onshore wind power by 2020.

and hundreds more offshore in this time frame.

One company has proposed to install 800 MW of PV capacity in Maine....a place where ignorant New Jersey sociopaths claim "it doesn't work!" all evidence to the contrary.

But you didn't know that either...

did you

9. You burn natural gas to heat your home - I burn wood pellets
Maine exports renewable energy

New Jeresey IMPORTS coal-fired electricity from PA.

Nuclear-New-Jersey-Which-IS-A-Fraud is planning to construct additional ginormous power lines from PA and West Virginia to satisfy its sick need for coal-juice.

and New Jersey is building a ginormous LNG terminal too.

Those new energy corridors will transport gas *through* Maine to Nuclear-New-Jersey-Which-IS-A-Fraud.

and renewable electricity from Quebec and New Brunswick.

Maine doesn't need that gas

Nuclear-New-Jersey-Which-IS-A-Fraud does

enjoy your coal-juice and your dead radioactive seaturtles...
