Japan Ministry of Industry issues Energy 2030 plan (14 more reactors).
Edited on Mon Apr-19-10 06:22 PM by Statistical
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry issued a draft action plan on energy usage for 2030 on Monday, including boosting zero-emission electricity output, including nuclear power, to 70 percent from 34 percent now.

...

Adding at least nine nuclear reactors and boosting the average nuclear plant operation rate to 80 percent by 2020.

While the anti-nuclear folks keep citing the same old scare stories from 30 years ago and citing bogus fantasy land studies, in the real world reactors are being built (55 currently under construction) and even more are being planned (98 planned before this change).

That is a lot of activity for this "dead industry". One incorrect fact (I have heard) is the 70% in the reuters article is actually nuclear and hydro combined. Hydro makes up about 15% of power in Japan. Japan is interested in pumped hydro because of its ability to store electricity. Pump/storage/generate allows hydro to acts as a giant shock absorber between the reactors running at full capacity and the fluctuating power demands.

2. Mr. Japan.....Iran want to do same, but they can't get a break...
...maybe with over 18 billion military support from America's taxpayers you are now able to spend your own money on defense/energy.
