http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTOE63I07K20100419While the anti-nuclear folks keep citing the same old scare stories from 30 years ago and citing bogus fantasy land studies, in the real world reactors are being built (55 currently under construction) and even more are being planned (98 planned before this change).
That is a lot of activity for this "dead industry". One incorrect fact (I have heard) is the 70% in the reuters article is actually nuclear and hydro combined. Hydro makes up about 15% of power in Japan. Japan is interested in pumped hydro because of its ability to store electricity. Pump/storage/generate allows hydro to acts as a giant shock absorber between the reactors running at full capacity and the fluctuating power demands.
