Iranian president says rich nations drink too much water
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday accused developed countries of using too much water.

"One of the main causes of water shortages is that developed countries use two times more than is necessary," Ahmadinejad said at the Water for Life international conference in Tajikistan's capital of Dushanbe.

The Iranian leader also said excessive use of water by rich nations caused climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.

1. I think it means uses : not drinks
and yes - he's probably correct when you think about it.

4. My first thought was "wastes" but I agree, he's right about that.

I wonder if his words were translated incorrectly?

5. Wastes is undoubtably more accurate
Yes - maybe something lost in translation.

6. In semi-arrid Colorado, there are acres & acres of business park lawns
that are watered, usually mid-day & often times with broken sprinkler heads that shoot it out into the street. Lawns that no one plays on, no one picnics on, just acres & acres of lawns that take tons of water, fertilizer & weed killer to maintain. Our way of life is so out of tune with nature.
