British climate change skeptic attacks St. Thomas professor
http://www.twincities.com/news/ci_15586733?source=rss

"A University of St. Thomas professor has touched off a bitter trans-Atlantic cyberflap that's resulted in threats of legal action.

It started when John Abraham posted an extensive online slideshow rebutting a speech last October at Bethel University by a British climate change skeptic, Christopher Monckton.

Abraham said today he decided he had a responsibility as a scientist to speak out.

Monckton claimed he was libeled. He has called Abraham "wretched," St. Thomas President Dennis Dease a "creep," and made dismissive comments about the school and the archbishop of St. Paul. "

Not much more than that at the link.

So rebutting someone's claims is libel now?

1. I hope the crazy UK libel laws don't allow this idiot to succeed.

3. The UK libel laws aren't *that* crazy ...
The key principle is "If it's the truth, it isn't libel".

The truth in this case is undeniably "Monckton is a bat-shit crazy
lying little toe-rag" so that leaves a lot of scope for dismissal ...

4. As I understand it, though, the burden of proof is entirely on the defendant.
