1. 0.2% of the total power generated is solar
Is that a great job?

Most electricity from PV is not counted into the total electricity production of the utility companies as the solar panels are mounted on individual homes or businesses.

4. Yup - adding just grid-connected PV doubles the 2007 "total" in Xemasab's post
Adding just grid-connected PV doubles the 2007 "total" in Xemasab's post:
http://energyalmanac.ca.gov/renewables/solar/pv.html

Electricity produced by solar photovoltaic (PV) systems surpassed solar thermal electricity in installed capacity in 2008. The cumulative installed capacity reached about 440 megawatts (MW) at the end of 2008, eclipsing the 354 MW of solar thermal. Assuming each system installed kW produced 1,500 kWh, the California PV systems produced 661,500,000 kWh (661.5 GWh) of electricity. That's nearly as much as the 675 GWh of electricity by solar thermal in 2007.

5. I wonder
Assuming each system installed kW produced 1,500 kWh...

I wonder if that is a good assumption. Looking at the numbers in their charts, they say that the total installed capacity is 449,216 kW. For that amount of installed capacity to generate 661,500,000 kWh of electricity, each system would have to be producing it's nameplate output for 1472 hours every year, or on average ~4 hours a day. Is that realistic, even in sunny California?

9. It's exponential growth - and it's probably more than doubled since then
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 12:02 AM by bananas
the Bush-Cheney recesssion may have slowed it slightly,
but it's doubling about every 2-3 years,
and there's no good reason for it not to continue.

8. Smilies tend to be more in the anti-nuke oeuvre.
Along with dipshit parenthetical comments and a complete lack of understanding of graphs and data tables.

But thanks for playing. :)

12. FAIL
That doesn't include residentuial or commercial grid tied PV - California installed 338 MW of grid tied PV in 2010 ALONE

http://www.planetizen.com/node/46476

Only the original solar thermal facilities in Barstow built in the '80 are included in those numbers.

16. And what percent of California's energy is generated
by private solar, and how much has that amount grown in 14 years?

If you're going to call me a failure, you need to provide some numbers.
