Radiation 10,000 times normal level found in water that hit workers (No. 3)
TOKYO, March 25, Kyodo

Water which three workers were exposed to at the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant contained radioactive materials 10,000 times the normal level, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Friday.

The finding underlines the possibility that part of the fuel in the No. 3 reactor of the plant or the spent fuel stored in the pool in the reactor building may be damaged.

The three, who are from a company cooperating with TEPCO, were involved in work to restore power to the No. 3 reactor, which has lost cooling function. They were working in the basement of the reactor's turbine building when they were irradiated.

1. Note I did not use the "P" word or the "M" word but they should test for that
in the workers and the pool, and be transparent with the results. (not likely!)

Bless the Fukushima 50/200 xox

3. Why don't they just report the actual level?
I'd imagine that the normal levels in water are quite low... So 10,000 might not mean much.

But they clearly got the highest reported dose in this crisis in a comparatively short time... So it must be pretty high.

5. What's "normal"?
Yes, 10,000 times "normal" can be "nothing" if "normal" is 1/100,000th of a concerning level.

But I made clear that wasn't the case here as they obviously DID receive the MOST sigificant dose reported so far.

I just prefer to get actual numbers. Someone must have had them or they couldn't calculate the 10,000:1 figure, now could they?

9. ???
What's your point?

"Normal" isn't the line between "dangerous" and "not dangerous".

10. Now there are reports they are over TEN BILLION TIMES 1/1,000,000 of normal
Things are going downhill fast. That's my point.

11. Ah... I see.
You're pointing out that it's easy to play games with the numbers.

I agree... that was the point of my initial reply.

6. Interesting that the report says Beta radiation
Indicative of high levels of Tritium perhaps, and wasn't it reactor 3 where they suspected the suppression torus had cracked?

7. Cesium is a beta emitter.
Probably the element that will cause the greatest long-term damage.

13. Finally found a report with the actualy levels.
"It said 3.9 million becquerels of radiation was detected from 1 cubic centimeter of water sampled from the floor of the building."

Now that's some serious radiation levels.

Also high enough to imply that it's coming from one of the reactors and not a fuel pool.
