Why Telecommuting Is An Energy Win-Win
"Where are you working, right now?

If you’re in the office, would you rather be at home?

Verizon sent me this infographic on tele-commuting, which the company calls telework:"

1. Damn Skippy!
I have been freelancing for a few years now and i meet with my clients on avg once every 2 weeks. I have tried to work 'regular' jobs since and find that the work i do from home is always better...

I truly hope the trend continues, not only to save energy, but for better family options as well...think of what you save in childcare when you can be HOME when they get off the bus...and then work another hour before dinner...

My jobsearch has shifted once more, i am now ONLY looking at telecommute jobs ... I know that I work better when not chained to a cubicle ;)

2. I've been telecommuting for 10 years now. It's much more efficient, and allows the company
to trim middle managers.

Allow people to manage their own time, save time, energy, money, gas, resources and lives. Telecommuting is most definitely a win-win.

3. From an AGW perspective
it would be interesting to see some numbers of how getting 40% of the US workforce to telecommute would translate into CO2 savings or compare with many of the more unpopular proposed reductions in lifestyles.

In general I think telecommuting is a Win-Win on a multitude of different levels. I've been telecommuting for 15+ years. I like it and would not go back to a office day job. There are many advantages. Though, it isn't for everyone. It requires more self discipline, and there can be sense of 'disconnectedness' from the office gossip and politics that can be a disadvantage on a personal level and a professional level.

If your job permits, I suggest one try it out on a part time basis (1-2 days/week) before taking the plunge.
