{Fukushima multiple meltdown) Wastewater rises, fears mount
Wastewater rises, fears mount

The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is struggling to remove pools of highly radioactive wastewater as fears of an overflow get more intense.

Tokyo Electric Power Company says wastewater levels rose around 6 centimeters inside the No.2 reactor turbine building, and in its utility tunnel, during the 24-hour period through Thursday morning.

Increases were also seen inside the No.3 and 4 reactor turbine buildings.

The water level in the utility tunnel is now just 28 centimeters from the surface outside the No.2 reactor, and 24 centimeters from the surface outside the No.3 reactor...

The final paragraph of the article adds as almost an afterthought that the water level in reactor building #1 has gone down 8 cm. Gee, I wonder what the implications of that are?

But don't worry, we have the assurances of the promoters of nuclear power that the multiple meltdown at Fukushima isn't anywhere near as significant as an episode of food poisoning.

1. The situation is worse than ever, the attention from the media less.

3. Worse than ever?
Did you happen to miss the days with explosions and radiation high enough to cause evacuations? Ongoing airborne releases hundreds/thousands of times as high as currently? Millions of curies released into the sea?

What's your definition of "worse"?

2. We're talking less than a foot, right? A few more days of rain and it'll overflow.

So that would be some of the worst contamination yet all over the grounds of the site and more-contaminated buildings contaminating less ("less" obviously being a relative term) contaminated ones. And into the ocean and god knows where else...

5. Sorry Kris, many people dying is worse than negative hype about an almost 3 month old disaster.
Where only one person has died - from a heart attack.
