1960 was really not that long ago.

in terms of "geological time-scales" that seems like a tremendous feat.
so,
we should get some kind of *Galactic Terraformers Award* for that kind of result.

The ocean west of the Antarctic Peninsula has warmed by more than a degree since the 1960s - contradicting the results of computer models.

Computer models had suggested that a combination of ice, winds and currents would keep the Antarctic water cool and shield many marine creatures from the effects of climate change.


"Air temperatures on the Antarctic Peninsula have gone up by three degrees in the last 50 years or so and none of the computer models show that either," Professor Peck told the BBC News website.

"So I think you have to accept that the ability of the models to characterise polar regions is relatively poor."

the idea that our paltry models could be trusted with that kind of conclusion is preposterous hubris.

We don't know all the processes that govern earth's climate, and even if we did we don't have the computing power to model them from first principles. Nothing less is sufficient to accurately model a chaotic system, even for a limited time.

I bet that ocean didn't even really warm up. Can you prove it? Were you there? And how would they know the WHOLE ocean got warmer? I heard that they only waited for the hottest day this summer and tested one spot and then said the whole ocean warmed up. We have scientists studying this issue and they disagree with the conclusions.
