Act to protect Forest Roadless areas
As you may know, there has been tremendous debate over the Roadless Area Conservation Rule which was intended to protect the 58 million acres of roadless areas remaining in America’s National Forests. The rule was put in place in early 2001. In an outpouring of democracy more American’s have commented on and supported this rule than any other federal rule in U.S. history. And more American’s spoke up to oppose the Bush administration’s rescission of the rule than on any other revision in history.
Now we have the opportunity to speak up again on behalf of the wild lands in America’s forested roadless areas. The nation’s Administrative Procedure Act requires federal agencies to “give an interested person the right to petition for the issuance, amendment, or repeal of a rule”. You can participate in the Sierra Club’s petition drive to repeal the Bush administration’s gutting of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule by going to the following link.
