i need some advice from the amateur Hubbles among us
I'm thinking about buying a refractor telescope and would like to hear from those who own one. I'm looking for a 4 to 6 inch tube with a go-to mount. Meade and celestron are prime candidates. I know there are better optics available, but flourite triplets are too rich for me. I'm not trying to split magnitude 14 binaries, but I'm tired of fumbling with my ancient 8 inch Dobsonian. I just want to be able to follow Saturn's moons and work my way through the Messier catalogue. If you've had any experience with the Meades or Celestrons or any similarly priced instruments I'ld like to see your comments, pro or con. Post here or message me. Thanks.

1. Both mine are reflectors....
Meade ETX-90 Maksutov-Cassegrain which is nice for light work.

I also have a Celestron C-8 that I use for more heavy duty stuff.

Is there any particular reason why you want to go refractor over reflector?

2. cuz you get the job done with a lens half the size?
maybe? and don't have to look in the wrong end of the tube?

3. Probably no rational reason
The romance of the refractor? I want to follow in the footsteps of Galileo? It looks more like a real telescope? I could natter on just as plausibly about contrast and color rendition and ease of maintanence. Maybe I want to see how things look through a refractor? I'm sure there's a reason in there somewhere. I'm considering the Meade 127 too.
