(note diesel production up 24%)
Sacramento - With California refiners well into the annual
"turnaround"season - the time of year when planned maintenance shuts down
some gasoline and diesel production units - production of reformulated
gasoline for use in California increased 0.6 percent from the previous
week, according to the Weekly Fuels Watch Report issued today by the
California Energy Commission.
Production of reformulated gasoline in California refineries averaged
973,286 barrels a day for the week ending January 6, 2006, a 10.2 percent
increase over this time last year. Inventories of reformulated gasoline
jumped 13.2 percent from the previous week as refiners stockpiled supplies
to carry them through this period of planned repairs. CARB gasoline
inventories are 0.4 percent below last year's levels.
Production of California diesel fuel this week continued at levels well
above any reached for this date in the past five years. Diesel production
dropped 1.7 percent from the previous week but was 14.2 percent better
than at this time last year. Inventories of CARB diesel rose by 10.3
percent over the week and were 24.2 percent higher than at this time last
year.
California refineries began planned maintenance in December. The repairs
and upgrades should continue on a staggered schedule into March, as many
refiners retool to meet new federal ultra-low sulfur standards that go
into effect June 1, 2006.
