has announced its plan to set up a multi-million dollar assembly plant in Nigeria for the production of solar-powered electricity generating items for the use of rural farmers.
The plant is being established in collaboration with a South African firm, Ubuntu International and Kaduna-based Admiral Environmental Care. Ubuntu Managing Director, Mr. Anssy Okoebor, and Admiral Executive Director, Mr. Shedrack Madlion who spoke on the plans, said the plant would be located in Kaduna and expected to begin production in June 2006.
According to them, some of the items to be produced include, free play solar radio sets, self-powered generators, torchlights, lamps and GSM phone chargers.
"Some of these products are already being distributed to farmers in the north at subsidised rates and we also have a scheme known as pay small small to enable as many rural farmers as possible have access to them.
