3. it's more about how much snow the mountains above Flagstaff get

and yes, they had NO snow and these wave of storms is supposed to dump over a foot, maybe two so it has to help...

as far as down here, it will clean the air which we need so bad and the cactus can fill up enough to hang on for a while more

and it's certainly better than nothing for day after day after day......

7. no, the area rarely gets more than a foot a month or so

Unless of course, you are speaking of the mountain areas.

Is it not true that the vegetation in the desert itself is too sparce to create much of a fire?

It's been some time since I've been to Arizona, but what I recall of the Phoenix area was that there wasn't that much to burn. Am I wrong on this?

33. I had a conversation about this with a lovely lady on the way to PHX

Despite my job title, I know very little about western wildfires. I learned, at the Atomic Test Site in NV, no less, that a rainy spring can make the fire season worse - the plants grow like crazy, then dry out.

On a flight leg that ended in PHX, a woman sitting next to me on the plane explained that after 2 years of drought (she blamed all the coastal people moving into town and wanting their lawns and golf courses) people were worried about fires.

I found this interesting, because in my experience, no one is worried about fire until you can see it in your neighborhood.

34. Nope. San Fernando Valley. We do get some water from the

Central Valley, also, but an awful lot comes from the Eastern Sierra. They pump the aqueduct water up over the mountains into the valley.

East of here they get theirs mostly from the Colorado River.

I find this particular map curious, I've watched storms from them for years intermittently, and this particular counterclockwise vorticity (red loop) appears larger than I remember typically seeing.

It's quite unusual for the "540" line (rough guide to rain versus snow) to dip down into Baja California, Mexico.
