CNN Headline: Gulf Coast to see no more Katrinas.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WEATHER/04/06/hurricane.names/index.html

Is it just me, or are they phrasing this article about the retirement of the hurricane name a little weirdly?

I hate our right wing propaganda outfits.

1. I thought the same thing. They must think they're being cute.
They aren't.

2. the eye of katrina went right over my home
I don't find that headline comforting at all. The next hurricane will come; it will just have a different name. The trauma of katrina is still reverberating down here and the next hurricane season is right around the corner. The name should have been retired, but not trivialized.

5. Sorry to hear that, about the eye.
It is too much to expect even a shred of decency from CNN.

I saw the News Hour piece on the Bay Saint Louis MS schools yesterday. It seems that they aren't even close to recovering, and there's no telling what will be coming in a few months.

4. Honey, close the barn door, the horse is gone! Retiring names
seems kinda' silly. On the other hand, there are ALOT of names they have yet to use, even tho they stupidly pick re-runs, or really similar versions of the same name. What dopes come up with the lists?

7. There's a big part of me that thinks evil outweighs stupid.
When you look at CNN's home page, you would never dream that the types of thing that should stir consistent outrage are even happening.

8. News outlets are owned by plutocrats. And plutocrats never benefit...
from outrage. At least, the kind of outrage that inspires real change. Bread-and-circus outrage is quite useful, as a distraction from the more threatening kind.

9. They updated the headline already. Now it's " No more Hurricane Katrinas"
That seems better.

10. More storms per year
With the effects of pollution (be it increase in natural gases, it's still a pollution because it results in negative effects), we'll be seeing more storms, hurricanes per year period.

The more water heat (latent heat energy of water) the hurricane gets to drive off the better for them, gets them stronger, and they'll last longer.

12. Well the good news is that Dr. Gray predicted less storms
Than we had last year.

The bad news is, that we had more than double what he predicted last year. And he's predicted more than he predicted last year.

change.

11. They should name all hurricanes after George W. Bush from now on.
George W. Bush I
George W. Bush II
George W. Bush Blows
George W. Bush Blows Big Chunks

etc., etc., etc.
