Texas signs deal for planned wind farm off Padre Island
Jerry Patterson, commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, said today his office has signed a research and exploration deal for a second wind farm off the coast of Texas.

Patterson hailed the deal as futher evidence of a "Texas wind rush" as the state seeks to broaden its revenue from oil and gas exploration and production royalties.

Superior Renewable Energy, a Houston-based company founded in 2002 by oil-and-gas industry veterans, has leased the rights to 39,900 acres off the coast of the Padre Island National Seashore.

CEO John Calaway said up to 500 wind turbines eventually could be placed in the area, which is just off Padre Island, south of Baffin Bay.

3. The who?
Key question: Who are the "Lower Laguna Madre Foundation"? OK, this may be an "appeal to incredulity", but really, who the fuck are they? It's not exactly UNESCO or the WWF. It's not even Greenpeace or the Sierra Club. a quick look at www.charitynavigator.org and wikipedia show fuck all. A google on "Walt Kittelberger" turns up the following quotes:

"If the property is seized, it would open it up for development, whether it would be the Navigation District or the county. It could be developed by a wide range of people. That's why we're so opposed. It's bad for the environment and it's bad for private property ownership."

"The burden of the cost is supposed to fall on the entire taxing district. Instead, they've chosen to put the burden on 400 people."

Me, I'm thinking NIMBY. And from http://waltscharters.com

Yeah, here's a man who works in conservation. :eyes:
