Michael Kenna spent some time photographing the massive cooling towers of the Ratcliffe Coal Station in England.
One cannot right click on the photographs, but they can be found here:

The plant has been closed for two weeks because of a steam explosion that injured two workers.
It produces 2,000 MWe of electrical power.
Each year, this plant, an example of "clean coal" since it is fitted with sulphate scrubbers, produces 9.2 million tons of carbon dioxide. It is the 15th largest emitter of carbon dioxide in Europe, and the second largest in the UK after Drax, the fifth largest overall, which emits 16.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
For comparison purposes, 9 of the top 15 emitters of carbon dioxide are in Germany, whereas only two are in the UK.
Being "clean coal" Ratcliffe-on-Soar does not appear on the top twenty sulfur oxide emitting plants in Europe, but it is the fifth largest emitter of nitrogen oxides, producing 23,000 tons per year.
